Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia started meetings in the regions in parallel to the sectoral meetings. PM started his meetings with the Shida Kartli region and met teachers and other professionals in Gori.

While meeting with teachers, PM spoke about the reform agenda in the education sector of the country and noted that systemic reform is not the one that will reap tangible results within a year or two. But, at the same time, the Head of Government of Georgia believes that everyone should actually feel and see the daily progress.

"It is not a coincidence that we are starting visits to regions with Shida Kartli, and Gori was not selected without a reason. We are holding our first meeting with the teachers and the education sector at large. It has its own explanation. I was pleasantly surprised to see successful academic records in Gori, especially in the segment of general schooling,” noted PM.

The head of the Government noted that he believes that education is the systemic problem of the country and a system-wide reform has been launched to find solutions to it.

"We all understand it very well that education is our systemic problem. We launched a system-wide reform of the sector to find solutions to it. It should manifest in the improvement of social conditions of teachers, their competencies, environment, the high academic performance of our pupils and students. We all understand it well that the gap witnessed in the development of fundamental sciences over the past 30 years should be overcome. All the efforts made by the Government are aimed at that. Responsibility is fully shared in this as well by the Government" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

While meeting with the healthcare professionals, the Head of the Government expressed interest in the problems experienced by the healthcare service providers.

"It is of critically important for us to advance and develop the routine life and work conditions for large groups of the society: teachers, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement officers. It has a simple explanation. These are the people, who take good care of our children and praiseworthy elderly on behalf of the state. These are the most important positive obligations of the state" noted Gakharia.

Gakharia also met with entrepreneurs operating in Shida Kartli. According to he noted, the state should create every condition for farmers to become stronger and create additional jobs in the country.

While meeting with the representatives of Shida Kartli's local authorities in Gori, PM noted that his main goal is to make sure that “in terms of time and effectiveness, each Lari spent by the state reaches each citizen in a calculable and measurable manner, and we must remember the responsibility we assume, as time to be held responsible will surely come.”

The representatives of the local authorities informed the Head of Government about the region's challenges that cannot be solved through the efforts of local authorities alone. According to the Prime Minister, enhancing the effectiveness of the authorities' performance is one of the key goals.

Gakharia was appointed as the Prime Minister on September 8. Before becoming a member of the Georgian Dream, Gakharia worked and lived in Moscow, Russia from 1994 until 2013. He worked as Director for Business Development & Government Relations for Europe, Russia & CIS at Lufthansa Service Holding AG.
